MS. Lat. bib. d. 9
Summary Catalogue no.: Not in SC (late accession)
Contents
Almost all the beginnings of books have been cut out, but the order for the most part is the usual one for French 13th cent. bibles (see N.R. Ker, Medieval manuscripts in British libraries I, 1969, pp. vii, 96–7). Ezra I and Nehemiah were apparently written as one book, followed by “Ezra II” (Stegmüller, Rep.Bibl., 94, 1). Coloss. follows II Thess. The prayers of Manasses and Solomon are both included. The prefaces appear to have been the usual set; there are traces of: Stegmüller, op.cit., no.311 (Joshua); 328 (I Chron.); 335 (Judith); 341 + 343(?) (Esther); 457 (Proverbs); 468 (Wisdom); 487 (Jeremiah); 491 (Baruch); 492(?) (Ezechiel); 511 (Joel); 607 (Mark); 677 (Romans); 751 or 2 (II Thess.); 765 (Tim.); 809 (Cath.Epp.).
“Modern” chapter divisions were added soon after the MS. was copied, and the chapters were lettered a-g in the margins. Marginal glosses in four main hands: (a) mid 13th cent., French(?); (b) later 13th cent., English; (c) 14th cent., Italian; (d) 15th cent., English.
Addition, 14th cent., written in England
Dominican additions and corrections were made to the calendar in the late 14th cent., between 1394 and c 1397–1401. The additions include (15 June): ‘Dedic. ecclesie fratrum pred. Oxon. totum [duplex]’; the translation of St. Frideswide (12 Feb.), etc. Calendar verses were added at the same time (WIC 2583, 4055, 6481, 6525, 14374, 14565, 20129).
