Collation

i 12 (fols 1*a–11) | ii 10 (fols 12–21) | iii 14+1. Scribal quire signatures on the last verso of each quire, in the bottom right-hand corner. Leaf signatures in the first half of each quire, in the bottom right corner.

Layout

Ruling in ink, one column of c.29–31 lines without ruling. Ruled space c.140–47 × 103–11 mm.

Origin: 14th century, second half ; Germany (Mainz Charterhouse?)

Provenance and Acquisition

Mainz, Carthusian abbey of St Michael: the 15th-cent. ex-libris inscription at the upper margin of fol. 1*av: ‘Liber iste est fratrum Carthusiensium prope Mogunciam’, and the late 14th-cent. ex-libris inscriptions at the lower left-hand margin of fols 1br and 36v: ‘(.)codex carthusiensium moguntie(.)’.

William Laud, 1573–1645: his ex-libris inscription, dated 1638, at the lower part of fol. 1*av.

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.
